Calf And Lamb Judging
Record entries in both the calf ahd lamb sections were received for the Shannon Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club's annual calf and lamb competition, judged at the Shannon School recently: In spite of threatening weather, there was a good attendance of the publie, about 150 parents and other inter"estbd persons Jieingi preseht^ v The entries t^ere paraded ih excellent. cbndition and .were thO suhject of favourable cdmmeht by the judge, Mr. H. J. Lancaster, of Levin. rA feature of .the judging was that Mr. Lancaster, using the'school's Dublic address system, commented briefly on each of the ten best calves. This was' very much appreciated hy those present and it is hoped thajfc this practice i will be continued in the future.Ribbons were presented to the winning exhibitors by Mrs. Jeffrey, wife of the chairman of the school committee. At the cqnclusion' of the judging, Mr. A. . E. jeffrey extended thanks to Mr. Lancaster and the associate judges for their work, congratulated the children on the condition of their entries and stated that his committee was most gratified at the continued interest and support of the public. Afternoon tea was then served in the infant school building. .... w.,-. % An unusual feature ofme' dUy was a calf judging competition in which senior punils judged the entries. Tony Pope (Kiwi), Allan Foot (Tui) and Robin Sell (Kiwi) - each selected the winning calf, Elaine James (Tui) the second calf," and Oene Flutey (Tui) and Jill: Batchel'or (Kiwi) the third. . This competition resulted in. Kiwi House; obtaining 50 points and Tui House 45 points in the inter-house competitions. Individual results of the judging have already been published.
