Federal Party Leaders All Feel Confident
CovwiQht)
Received. Friday, 10.35 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 9. The Federal eleetion campaign, described by Opposition leaders as the most. important in Australia's history, will end today in a final feverish burst of aetivity. The party leaders, Mr. Chifley (Labour), Mr. Menzies (LiberaP and Mr. Fadden (Country Party) are exhausted by the strenuous five weeks' campaign during which they have travelled a total of 50,J)00 miles by car and plane, and' addressed up to five meetings daily. Their voices are shcwing signs of the strain, but all thrce seem confident of success at the eleetion tomorrow. Mr. Chifley, who at 64, is the k oldest of the three, has shown re- * markable stamina which the Telegraph correspondfnt attributes to his abstemious eating and "cat napping." Mr. Menzies follows a similar schedule, with an early shower and stiff walk. Mr. Fadden finds crowds less tiring than Mr. Chifley or Mr. Menzies, but like them is showing fcigus of the strain. Mr. Chifley is making a goodwill tO'ir of his own electorate of Macquarie today and will return home to hear the results, after which he w:il go to Canberra on Sunday to comolete accumulated work. Mr. Menzies delivered his final eleetion speech last night in his own electorate of Kooyong. _He is resting tcdav and will visit the l)e".iing booths tomorrow. Mr. Fadden is speaking tonight at Reaudesert, 60 miles from Brisbane, in his own electorate.
