Disconcerting Wind Causes Poor Rifle Scores
A disconcerting wind on Saturday made for poor scoring in the Levin Defence Rifie Club's shoot from 600 yards. Magpies, outers and in some cases clean targets were the order of the day. P. R. Catley was the only competitor to get on top of the con--ditions. His 46 ih the first round was an excellent shoot and included the only magpie registered by this marksman on the day. Of Ihe 280 counting shots fired by competitors only 88 registered bulls, 117 made inners, 58 magpies, 15 outers and two clean missed, making an average return per i shot of less than four points. • The small-tore competitors did j not appear to be upset by the variable wind conditions, some i good scores being returned in this 1 section. The best were by Mrs. A. L. Lumsden (95—93 — 186), Mrs. Fletcher (96 — 90 — 186) and Mrs. Guraey (81—91—172) . . Long range scores were:— P. ,R. Catley 46 — 43 — 89, R. Wehineihana 41 — 43 — 84, J.
