Eighty Feet Of Christmas Tree
When Christmas comes along Paraparaumu wili probably have New Zealand's biggest Christmas tree. That thought, at any rate, has taken shape in the mind of Mr. S. W. Moult, a local resident, whose vintage motor cars and tricycles were a feature of the Paraparaumu School jubilee celebrations recently. The tree is already in position. It stands, a mighty ..specimen possibly 80 ffc. high, on Magnet Bakeries' property ■ in Hinemoa Street. What Mr. Moult plans to do is to surmount the tree with a star and to illuminate it as a treat for the children with from 300 to 400 coloured lights. A collection will be made on Christmas Eve to help the funds of the Paraparaumu branch of the Plunket Society. The old motor cars and tricycles will also be on hand to provide ri'des, and by this means also it is hoped to swell the Plunket Society's funds. The tree which Mr. Moult will bring to light is claimed to be at least 87 years old; others say it is still more ancient — perhaps as old as 100 years or more.
