Mr. Elliott's house stands on a comiiiariding sit'e ten miies from Matamata and surrounding his house is a large area of rough hilly scriib covered cotmtry. At 5.4 p.m. a Small groiip consisting of Sergeant Bonnihgton, Constable Martin arid Mr. Goswell, noticed . a horse acting in a strange manner on an eminence ovferlOoking the road about half a rhile from Mr: Elliott's house. The horse was shying at 8Some object in the scrub nearby. As the men scrambled up the bank to investigate, a man rose from a clump of scrub. He had a gun. Cbnstable Martin dropped back and, making a detour, ap-^ proached^the man from the side. When near enough he sprang forward and pinned the man's arms to his side. V 1 ■ Sergeant Borinington and Mr. Goswell jumped forward and Seized the gun which was found to be fully lbaded.. Arthur Joseph Bradley, farrn labourer, aged 40, was formally char-ged with the attempted murder of Mr. Elliott. He was examined by a police .surgeon, Dr. W. R. Fea, in the Hamilton pblice cell at 8 p.rri. and was taken to the Waikato Hospital for treatmerit. The gun was identified as the property of Mr. Elliott. r.YiY^AV.VV.VW^A'.WM
