Witherington, received back1 from the Government an old-type .303 single-shot rifle which he had hhnded in for Home Guard use during the war years. He sold it to a man named R. Pearce who resold it to a man named L. Manion. Manion, in turn, lent the rifle to a fourth man, named R. N. Gordon, of Levin. When it was later discovered that'the rifle had not been registered, ^he police took action and all 'four men were charged in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Witherington with unlawfully delivering possession of a firearm, and the other three with procuring a firearm without a permit.
