Athletic Season Opens In Shannon
The Shannon Amateur Athletie and Cycling Cmb held its opening meeting of the season on the Shannon , Domain last week. The Mayor, Mr, D. A, Fitzgerald, who is also the cluh's patron, extended congratulations to the members on the work that had been carried out on the grounds, and wished them every success for the coming season. He extended a welcome to the visiting competitors and pulblic, and declared the season open.
: Favoured with fine weather, there was an excellent attendance of spectators, who witnessed keen contests in all events. The meeting was very well supported by members of the Levin, Otaki and Foxton clubs, which resulted in good fields in all events. The' cycle track was in first class condition following the vast improvements carried out by the local committee, and was the subject of favourable comment from visiting riders. A collection taken up was generously supported, the sum ,of £11 3s' being donated. .
