Institute Holds Successful Rose Show
The Shannon Women'a Institute held a very successful rcse . show in the Parish Hall recently, when an excellent selection of . hfnr>ms was display^d. . . The show. was officially - ppened by Mrs. T. Lynch, of Palmerston North, a past president of the Manawatu Federation of Womeh's Institut.es. £he complimented the promoters and the exhibitors on the excellent standard adhieved this year, saying how pleased she Was to note the consistent improvement in exhibitors over the past years. Mrs. Lynch congratuIated the institute on the effort i't was making to encoiirage the love of feeauty and perfection in flowers and handcrafts. : She wished the show committee many successful years ahead. Mrs. Lynch made special mentio'n of the arts and crafts exhibit from the local school and said that the designs for men's ties were particularly interesting. She coneluded by compiimenting the teachers and pupils on the excellence of ali ■the school work. The Mayoress, Mrs. D. A.' Fitzgera'ld, convener of the shbw. thanked Mrs. Lynch for attending and extended thanks and ccngratulations to the stewards and exhibitors for their .part in' making the display so attractive. Special thanks were given to Mrs. J. Kilmister for her generous donation of a handsome silver cup and three toeautiful samples of her own haridcraft as points prizes. Mrs. Fitzgerald also thanked, the judges, who had given so generously of their, time, the tea room helpers, the secretary, Mrs. J. T. Bovis, and the donors of artieles for competitions. The judges were: Mesdames Aitdhison and Larsen (Opiki) , blooms and decorative work; Mrs. J. Newton, needlework; Mr. J. Swindlehurst, vegetables; Mrs. J. Sinclair, cooking; and Mr. Walker (Makerua) school work. The stewards were Mesdames C. and H. Stern, W. Radford, T. BeU, L. Tremewan, A. E. Burling, J. Swindlehurst, C. Veale, T. €ondliffe and R.
