Otaki People Injured When Car Leaves Road
Four persons were injured, none of them seriously, when a small rental car plunged over a 100ft. bank on the Paekakariki hill on Saturday afternoon. A three-year-old girl was flung from the car about halfway down the bank. The girl, Raewyn Rankin, Tasman Road, Otaki, was taken to the Wellington Hospital suffering from shock and incised wounds to her scalp. Her mother, Mrs. A. Rankin,-- received shock and abrasions to her head and face arid was also taken to the hospital. The condition of both is reported to be satisfactpry. • The driver of the car, Mr. S. Thorner, and another passenger, Mr. G. Burnell, both of Otaki, received minor scratches. The accident occurred about 150 yards from the summit on the Wellington side, about 2.45 p.m. The car, travelling north, smashed • through the fence- on- ifcs left side, dragging with it about half a chain of fence. It rolled down an almost vertical bank for 100ft. then continued on flat land for a further 50ft. The bodywork of the vehicle was badly d&maged.
