Bhutan Beat Beaumaris In Canterbury Cup

The weather was fine and the track fast for the third day of the Canter- ' hury Jockey Oluh's Cup ineeting, which was concluded at Riccarton on Saturday. L. J. Ellis, rider, of Beaumaris ,in the Canterburv Cup, was called before the judicial stewards and asked > for an oxplanation of the horse 's performance. He said that there was no pace on in the early stages of tlie race, and his horse, when held, was hanging out. He went past Frances 'and his mount still hung out when Bhutan came up to him. Beaumaris cholied and held his breath, and he was still .^anging, out in the straight. It was not until the last fitr" long, when Bignal Offiaer ranged alongside him, that Beaumaris started to go again. The explanation was accepted. J. T. Anderson, rider of Johnny Peep in the Stonyhurst Handicag, was cautioned for lookmg round and making too ihuch use of the stick. K.
