♦ „ . The Gothard Handicap, principai race at Woodville on Saturday, was won by the Hastings-trained mare, Treneere, from Leyma, and Merry Robin was third, followed by Terrific. Following the posting of the result patrons were asked to hold their tickets. Later it was stated that there had not been enough evidence to prove; that Treneere had caused interference with Leyma in ihe last furiong and the dividends were paid out in accordance with the judge's placings. The open sprint was won . by Travel King decisively from Outlook which beat Phalamint ► \ and Recess by half a head.
The day was fine though breezy and there was a good attendance. The course was fast. The totalisator handled £43,491, compared with £46,464^ on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £83,267-i, as against £86,244. Ai ter the Gothard Handicap the chief stipendiary steward, Mr. JB. N. Sandilands, charged S. T. Phillips, the rider oi Treneere, with causing interference to the second horse, . • : Eeyttia, . in the last fnrlong. The ; judicial committee f ound that the interference- . aileged did not affect the result oi the race, and tnat there was iusumcient; eviaence to prove that Phillips did cause any inter- ; ierence witn Leyma.
