Horowhenua Beat Manawatu By 14 Runs
The Horowhenua cricket representatives proved too strong for Manawatu when they met at. Weraroa on Saturday, the winning margin being 14 runs after a game which was notable for its , low scoring. Horowhenua had first use of the wicket and made - a disastrous start, five of the batsmen being back in the pavilion for only 28 runs. Stands by K. Hudson (27) and W. Galloway (19) 'made sorely needed additioris and the innings flnally closed for 88. Most successful of the Manawatu bowlers were W. Miller, who took five wickets for 14, and N. Harford and Dean, who eaoh took two at low cost. .The early Manawatu batsmen also - failed, six of the wickets falling for 31 runs, W. Miller (18), R. Stewart (15) and Scott (13) were mainly responsible for advanping the score to a total.of 74. The. Horowhenua attack was led by'W. ODonnell and C. Carmont.
