Communists Lose Deposits.
All the Communist candidates who contested the elections lost their deposits. They secured only 3267 votes in 16 electorates,- the returns indicating that support for the party has, declined since 1946. Three years ago Communists contested only three seats, securing 1138 votes and in those three electorates this time the Communist vote was re'duced. This is how they fared at the polls: Areh Hill 321 votes (1946, 520), Auckland Central 193, Onehunga 187, Parnell 116, Ponsonby 130, Waitakere 367, Napier 118, Brooklyn 229, Island Bay 171 (1946, 329), Miramar 215, Petone 190, Christchurch Central 210 (1946, 289), Riccarton 189, Dunedin North 103, Mornington 200, Westland 328.
