Some of the signs were not in qrder when the lights of Piccadilly W^re turned oil fqr tfle first tfme after the war, said Mr. W. A. Hadlee, qaptain of the New Zealand cricket team which toured Oreat Britain. in an address to the Christchurch R.S.A. Tin Hat Club. Mr. Hadlee was in London at the time and described how the young people who had never seen the lights on in Piccadilly Circqs gazed in awe at the sight. "In one place, called the Sussex Tavern, the sign was not wprking properly and it proclaimed itself the . . . Sex Tavern," he said.
