Women's Tennis Team Back From N.S.W.
AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. "Given one more week of practice and our girls might have caused several upsets. As it was their high standard of play agreeably surprised the Australians, ' ' said the f ormer president ot the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Assoeiation, Mr J. O. Mercer, of Christchurch, when discussing today the play of the New Zealand women's touring team in Sydney. Mr Mercer returned with the team today after it had completed a tour of about a month in New South Wales. The captain of the team, Miss M. L. Kerr, of Dunedin, agreed that a longer stay in Sydney would have helped all players. One of the first problems had been changes in-court snrfaces varying from loam to en-tout-cas and to grass, and each member of the team had taken sorne time to adjust herself to the different bound and paee of each surface. "Our players, all the same performed well in the New South Wales championships," said Miss Kerr. The reception of the team had been kindly and the hospitality shown players had been marvellous.
