Decision On Bread Prices Must Stand
CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 29. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Nordmeyer) has rejeeted the proposal by the New Zealand I' ederation of Master Bakers and' Pastrycooks that three praetising accountants should re^ew bread prices and that their deeision on the- relief to be given to the baking indust'ry should be aecepted as conelusive by both the- Government and the federation. A special gencral . meetiiig of the baking industry has been called for December 7 at Wellington to consider the Minister 's reply. - .. The letter from the Minister rn reply to the bakers' representations was reeeived' by the secretafy of the federtition (Mr G. R. Burrowes, Christchurch), yesterday. It stated: "In view of the fact that the hawera' case was heard before a public sittiug of the Price Tribunal, I regret that it is not possible to accede to the request. If there is any fresh evidenee which would -justify a rehearing I am willing to ask the tribunal to- reeonsider the1 matter. In the meantinie, the deeision must stand." - ■ ■ "We are disappointed that Mr Nord meyer has not met our request, said Mr Burrowes; "The trade -will not . aecopt the position as it is."
