Presbyterian Church Holds Garden Party

Ihe annual garden party arranged by members of the St Andrew's branch of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union. WaS held in the church grouhds on Saturday afternoon. The occasion was favoured with fine weather an'd the conditidn of the grounds was such that they proved a fine setting for a garden party. The stalls did reasonable business, the work stall being served by Mesdam.es Kerr, Edgar and Davie and Miss Davie, the produce and small goods by Mesdames Stafinard, Fleteher and Ecclesfield, and flowers and plants by Mesdames Baldick, Palmer and McLeod. A very dainty afternoon tea was set out in the hall,- arrangements being made and carried through by Mesdames White, Bartholomew, Brash, Worsfold, Duncan and HudSon and Misses Gibson and Macartney. Father Christmas met the children in the Sunday School Hall, Mrs. Prouse and Miss Anderson carrying through the arrangements. The Busv Bee work 'stall presented a display of work done by members bf the BUsy Bees dufy. the year under the guidance of Mrs. Silson and Miss Bland. The soft -drinks and lces stall was condueted . by members Of the Young Women's Bible Class. The Horowhenua Highland Pipe Band, under Pine Sergeant Swan, blayed durjng the afternoon and in the somewhat restricted area the Caledonian Marching Team gave an exhibition of their skill. In thanking the ban'd and the marching team, Rev. A. Salmond commented on the suecessds the team had had sin-ce it had marched previously on the church grdunds. Mrs. E. T. King, president of the P.W.M.U., expressed the thanks of the branch to the men who had put the, grounds in .excellent cohdition for the occasiOn and to kll Who, by their service, had contributed to its success.
