Whitebait Season Ends. Apart from being election day, today also marks the closing of the whitebait season for the Manawatu River. Generally speaking the season has toOen a poor one, there being - only one really good "runV about six weeks ago and some good catches at Paiaka about two weeks ago. Whitebait seems to have had its day in this district, although the time was when Foxton was renowned for its catches, hut that was befpre the cultivation of farm lands foordering the Manawatu River wiped out the spawning grounds.
