Girls' Marching At Waikanae
Waikanae was en fete on Sun-4 day when a local marching contest was held," with the idea of bringing this popular and rapidlygrowing girls' sport before the public of the district. The function was conducted by the Horowhenua Marching Association with the lion's share of the organisation having fillen to Mr. €. L. Davies, Otaki, instructor of the newly-formed Waikanae ceam. Congratulations are due to all who fclayed any part in the success . of the function, an estimated attendance of 500 being seen. Mr. W. R. Jack, president of the Horowhenua Association, welcomed all present and called on Mr. J. Meldrum, of the Wellington Association, to officially open the gathering. Five junior and eleven senior teams competed and the honours were well distributfed, with the highest points in each section awarded as follows: — Junior. — Marshalls (Foxton) 290 points, 1; Tuis (Otaki) 263 points, 2; Cavaliers (Petone) 233 points, 3. Senior.— ^Caledonian (Levin 444 points, 1; Petone Rebels (Petone) 434 points, 2; Bandoliers (Otaki) 377 points, 3. Leaders contests were also decided and the points announced showed that competition in this branch was much keener, with the first three placings as follows: — Junior.— Tuis (Otaki), Miss P. Bevan, 100 points, 1; Marshalls, 99 points, 2; Cavaliers, 89 points, 3. Senior. — Caledonian (Levin) , Miss S. Smith, 111 points, 1; Ambassadors (Wellington) 109 points, 2; Bandoliers (Otaki) 108 points, 3.
