Interest in Local Film
Considerable interest was taken.in a film screened by the Wellington Automobile Association at, a recent . meeting of the Shannon ParentTeachers' Association, The film 1 showed the school warden system ; in operation. The system. was first commenced in Shannon and has been so successf ul that it has" now been adopted throughout New Zealand. - It differs from the school patrol in that the wardens assist the children over busy streets during the lull in tfaffic and do not stop traffic, as is done with. the school patrol. Portion of the film was taken at the Ballance StreetPlimmer Terrace intersection and those present at the screening were interested to recognise local people and vehicles passing by. Patrol Offieers Keenan aria Silverwood, were responsible for the screening. The latter officer is in charge of instruction to school children in the Wellington Automobile Associatiorx's area. Another task entrusted to the •school wardens is the regular examination of pupils' bicycles. The ■boys have been trained to conduct examinations and they carry out inspections and report any faulty brakes or other equipment to the headmaster'; who in turn sees that the machine is roadworthy, thus assuring the safety of the child using the bicycle. Since the warden system was adopted in Shannon it has proved most efficient and an excellent duty has been carried out by the boys responsible for the safety and administration of the rules of the road.
