T.U.C. Will Demand Vigorous Wage Restraint

Received Monday, 11.40 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 20. Mr. -Arthur Deakin, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, told a meeting of the National Association of Theatrical and Kmematograpn Employees' today that a Trades Union Congress special economic committee would, demand from the Government vigorous restraint in wages, salaries and dividends. "You will be surprised toi find that the 'vigorous restraint' we ask for is not for a limited period, but for a period whieh will enable this country to make economic recovery," Mr. Deakin said, adding that he would pot accept the term "wage freezing." He added: "What we say is that on the basis of present production wages and salaries ' generally should not be incre&sed, but if there is ap increase in productivity there should be nothing to prevent wage increases being given, and they should be given." &
