Received Mdnday, 10 a.m. NEW YORK, Nov. 20. ' ACCbrding to the United Presl' Panama City correspondent, President Daniel Chanis resigned today after national police seized control of the Governihent. The Supreme Court swore in Vice-President Roberto Chiari as' the hew PresF dent. A spokesman ' for President Chanis said -that he was barricaded in his Palace after the police seize^l power on the night of November 19 and demanded hiS resignation. He had yielded td aVdid bloodshed. • Earlier women and children were evacuated from the residential area around the Palace as a group of guards loyal to the President prepared to defend the Palace against attacks. They had' machine-guns, grenades and rifles in feadiness. The Minster of Government and Justice, Abilio Bellido, was gaoled along with two high Loyalist offi'cers last night when they attempted to thwart the coup.
