Woke Up To Find Man With Razor Standing By
AUCKLAND, Nov. 17. "I went to sleep and woke up later to find. the light on and Lawrence standing beside my bed. He had a cutthroat razor in his hand with the blacle open. I sensed danger and threw myself out of bed, As I did I put my hand in front of my face to shield it. Lawrence made a slash aF me and the razor edge struck my upraised rignt hand." This was. stated by Riehard Archibald Sinclair, aged 25, in evidence m the Police Gourt today when Ivan Arthur Lawrence, aged 22, labourer, was eharged with assault causing aetual bodily harm, on Oetober 25. Lawrence pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Oourt for trial. Lawrence flourished the razor at him again and bloeked his way to the door, continued Sinclair. After calling tor help' for a while, a man came to tnj room. i Detective H. G. Daulton produced a statement by Lawrence. In it Lawrence said he was feeling very ill apd doppy that night. He went to bed but stayed" awake all night. "At daybreak 1 got out of. bed, got a razor and went o ver to the man and woke him up. I then took a slash at his throat with the razor. The man put his hands up and I cut them with the razor. He sereamed My reason for attacking this man was because I thought he had something Io do With drugging me," said the statement. "When I attaeked fiim it was my intention to kill him."
