Local and General

Personal. Mr. George Fairley, a resident of Otaki of former years, was renewing acquaintances here on Tuesday and Wednesday. Miss Pafricia Fogden, of Tasman Roady Otaki, a pupil of Mr. Charles Olds, Levin, was a successful candidate in the recent Trinity College examination for elocution and passed with merit. Mr. and Mrs. W: McEwan, of Kirk Street, have left for a trip to the South Island and expec& to be away for about thre'e weeks, while Mr. and Mrs. McEwan, parents of the former, from Central Otago, are visiting Otaki.

Hall Renovation. Tne Angiicaii Church Hall in Te Rauparaha Street, adjacent to the Otaki Post Office, bas for some time pasb been in need of renovating. This work is now being undertaken an-d a plea is being maae to any users who feel disposed to help with a donation towards the cost. Card Evening. The first series of six card evenings held by the Otaki Railway Bowling Club was finalised on Wednesday night, when another suecessful function took place. Winners of points prizes were Mrs. R. Bills and Mr. J. P. Poutama, while prizes for the night were awarded to Mrs. H. Arcus and Mr. W. Connor (firsts) , and Mrs. S. Harvey and Mr. W. S. Hughes (seconds), with' a special award going to Mrs. E. J. Rosoman. Big Day At School. x'omorrow wili be a big daty for the Otaki School pupils. The annual ftower and vegetable' Show will take place during the day, while after lunch the annual calf and lamb ju'dging and parade will be held. For weeks past those with entries in the latter displa.y have been noticed grooniing and leading t'heir favourites, and a suecessful culmination of their efforts is eagerly anticipated. Paients and any persons interested are cordially invited to attend throughout the day.
