Good Fields For Weekly Athletic Sports

The evening sports meeting held last night at the • Otaki Domain was a most suecessful fixture, with limit fields in many events. Some excellent sport was witnessed, with many very keen finishes. The fine weather experienced over the last ten days saw' a particularly fast track, with good ■ times the result. During the evening it was announced that a number of trophies had been donated to the club for feature races and that in future one such race will take place nightly. The prize on this occasiorf was for a crash helmet and with four riders all in challenging positions nearing the home turn, a thrilling finish looked imminent. Unfortunately, R. Harper (Levin), when in the lead, fell and another rider fell over him. With the West Coast championships in sight, many cyclists were ri'ding exceptionally well, and the winning performance of D. Smith, who ha'd also taken a fall in an earlier event, was a very fine one.
