The special cbmmittee ?set up by the Horowhenua Rutby Hnioi^ to investigate the proposal by, Manawatu that Horowhenua be-' come a sub-union, or to formulatq some other plan which would be of mutual 'benefit and be acceptaole to both unions, has had its nrst meeting.,. , / / "In a report issued. yesterday the committee stated that it had disf cussed ,the question fully and de| cided - that althbugh a sub-union ioasis appeared to be out oi the question, there were possibilities M a combination of some - kind taking place. , . f Horowhenua Viewpoint. * At a round-taole conference in Palmerston North. recently the Horowhenua union's president, Mr. R. L. Robinson, in explaining the Horowhenua viewpoint,, stateq that whatever came out oi the discussions the ultimate results had to be of benefit to both unions and he felt that Horowhenua had as much to offer as Manawatu. He furvner felt that an important factor was the improving of internal foothail and any plan that was decided upon had to hdve this as a "plank of its platform.'' Another factor he wished to be kept in view was that the public in the various centres were entitled to see the best of the foot* -ball produced. - ; Manawatu's Theughts. The president of the Manawatti union, Mr. H. Palmer, repfied that he was sympathetic to Horowhe^ nua's prcioiems as well as to their own, their thoughts heing that the scheme they envisaged would help players from both unions to attain nigner honours, as well as ' providing the means to assist foetball in all grades. He and, his committee would look with favour on any request from Horowhenua in regard to their particular problem of improving the game in their district- and if it was at all possible to renaer assistance they would gladly do so. Finaliy a skeietun scheme was arrived a:, its aavaniages and 'disadvantages discussed and both sub-committees were left , tov further discuss it and meet again. It was felt that even although at this early stage it was difficult to come to somei, ning concrete, the meeting of botn unions on such amicab.e terms 'would result ih benefit to both districts. ; Asked by a "C'hronicle" reporter for detaiis of the ske.eton scheme referred to, Mr. Rooinson said that the Ccmmittee would prefer L-o 'discaiS it first,, out that a further statement wo-uid be made next week. Ultimateiy the results of th6 negotiations would be piit before a go-neral meeting of the union. t •
