GIRLS' MARCHING
Successful Gpening Day Held On Saturday Last Saturday girls' marching teams from Foxton, Levin, otaki and Waikanae participated for the first time over the new contest course for the coming season. The teams from Bulls and Palmerston Norfch did not take part, apparently considering t that the lateness in reeeivihg march plan had not allowed enough time to warrant the expense of travelling to put in an appearance at a noncompetitive opening day. Three junior teams, Tuis (Otaki), Marshall's (Foxton) and Waikanae, performed realiy well considering that their plans have only recently come to. hand. It was . the Waikanae team's first public appearance and although making mistakes, this team showed definite promise. The senior teams all performed reiiiarkably well, Caledonians (Levin) putting up a high standard ensured by their past experience, Although judging was cariried out according to the uniform plan, po results are available for publication as these points were for the ibenefit of the teams and .coaches to assess their merits in comparison with other teams. Where mistakes were ma'de judges were on hand to point them out so that they could be obviated in the future. The serpentine march .organised by Mr. J. R. Macfarlane once -again proved the highlight of the show. Arrangements are well forward for the display to be held at Waikanae on November 27, when it is hoped that most of the teams in the district will be present. The HorowJhenua Ma.Tching Association- wishes to thank the Levin Municipal, Horowhenua Highland and the Levin Military Bands for their assistance on Saturday and also the women who provided afternoon tea in the Regent Hall for the marching girls and visiting athletes. - At the conclusion the Fopular : Marching Girl sash was presented to Miss Edna Taylor, of Bandoliefg (Otaki).
