Man Who Wrote Threat To Kill
NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 14. Found guilty "with a strong recommendation to mercy considering his state of mind at the time of writing," Gerald Alfred Hodges, a seaman, was remanded for sentence by Mr Justice Stanton at New Plymouth today, for knowlingly sending a threat to kill Bessie Monoa Anglem, of Bluff, in a letter posted at Wellington about September 4, Hodges and Miss Anglem became engaged to be married in October 1948, but the engagejnent was broken by Miss Anglem this year because he accused her of conduct of which he disapprovea. Hodges wrote a number. of letters to Miss Anglem which were of an objeetionable character. One contained a threat to kill and all were abusive ana indecent.
