AUCKLAND, Nov. 12. The sum of £2548 15s damages was awarded to the Publie Trustee (Mr A. K. North,- K.C., and Mr L. Johnsoh;, against Desmond John Markham, agea 26, farmer, of Ararimu, Ramarama' (Mr Gv Wallace), by a jury before 'Mr Justice Callan yesterday. The jury awarded £2341 to the trustees on oehalf'of a family of severn young children • whose mother was killed in a road accident, £132 to the deceased's husband's estat'e, and £75 15s funeral expenses. Judgment was entered by His Honour. 5 The action was a sequel to a fatal aceident on .the (Jreat South Road near Drury on August 28, 1948, in whieh Mrs Dorothy Austin, aged 39, mother oi seven children, was knocked down by a motor-car driven by defendant. The case was brought by the Public Trusteo as the exeeutor of the estate of Mrs Austin 's husband, who - died eighi months after the accident. Plaintitt also sought a sum of £75 15s for funerai expenses.
