Five Shilling Pieces To Be Issued This Week
WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. Crown pieces minted for the Royal tour would be issued in New Zealand at their face value — 5s — and would be available next Thursday, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) said last night. Distribution of the . coins throughqut New Zealand would be on a vwide • a scale as possible so that the genefal public would be able to secure speei- ; mens. ' ' The buik of the 200,000 coins minted have now been received in NeW Zealand and preparations are complete for their distribution through the' trading banks, ffom which the public will be able to pbtaip the coins," said Mr Nash. "Small supplies of the coins are available. in London, Washington, Montreal, San Francisco, Sydney and Melbourne for the coovenienee of over, seas collectors. ' ' The crown pieee is one of the silyer coins mentioned in the sehedule to the Coinage Aet, 1933, and is 1,5.25 inches in diameter. The design on the obverse side is the uncrowned figure oi His Majesty the King, along wxth the words *'King George the Sixtlt, 1 ' while on the reverse side there apppqr a fern frond between f o.ur ' fi ve -p oin ted . stars whieh represent the constellation of the Southerh Cross, and the wordiqg, "New Zealand Crown 1949." to the charge.' *
