Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12. A rocket-powered target-seeking missile for launching from one plane against another, has been developed experimentally for the United States Air Force. The missile, which has not reached the production stage, is known as the "Firebird." It is intended for use against enemy planes hidden by darkness or cloud. The Firebird is small enough to permit a jet fighter to carry several and can be hung on ordinary external bomb racks. The missile has electronic equipment for locating its victims and for guiding its flight to at least a near collision. The explosive can be detonated by a proximity fuse aS it approaches the target.
