Weraroa-Otaki Match Has Exciting Finish
There was an exciting finish to the Weraroa-Otaki game, played at Weraroa on Saturday in the Horowhenua senior cricket competition, the former playing tipandnrun in the last few minutes to finally gain an eight-point win. Otaki made a disastrpus start, three wicke'ts falling for qnly eight runs. Then Ralph and Wallace made a stand, but the tail failed td wag and the -Side was out for 65. Ralph (19) and Wallace (33 not out) were the sole batsmen to reach double figures. Sa.rniders and O'Donnell- r outed the batsmen, eaoh capuuring four cheap wiekets. Weraroa notched a quick 97 for three wiekets and deelared. Weller (18), Keenan (27 retired) and Marton (25 retired) were largely responsibie for this totai. Sent in again, Otaki improved on their initial showing 'and were all out for 86. Double figure scorers were Harper "(20) , Wallace (17) and Ralph (13). France and De Castro each took three wiekets and Saunders two. Left wiuh 54 runs to get for an eight-point win, Weraroa succeeded in their task. Keenan (26) and Morton (19) made useful contribu'tions to the total of 61 for five wiekets.
College Beat Paraparaumu. Paraparaumu had the first use of the wicket against College and batted s.eadily to score 126. The best result was retumed by Schrader, who was con'tent to wait for the loose 'ball and then hit hard. His score of 39 contained seven fours. Of the remainder, Murray scored 23, B. Cavanagh 17 and G. Cavanagh 10. Bowling for College, Coleman took four for 19 off seven overs and Andrews three for 23 off 15 overs. College replied with a score of 160 for eig'ht, made in one and three-quarter hours. The double figure scorers were Andrews (51 not out), Wenham (27), Harvey (20, including two sixers) and Hamilton (il). Bowling for Paraparaumu, Keogh took three for 34 off 10 overs and Murray three for 38 off nine overs. ' Drawn Game. Old Boyg and Foxton played to a draw in their match at Foxton. Battirig flrst, Old Boys gathered 162 .runs before being dismissed. G. Sciascia topped the batting With 39, his innings including one six and two fours. Useful contributions came from C. E. Barraiud (35), A, Judd. (24) and Parsons 16. Newth and Carmont captured three wiekets each and two fell to A^hwood. Foxton did not get runs as easily as Old Boys and the expiry of timo found them with 133 for the loss of nine wiekets. Carmont proved enterprising and made 55 before being caught by Small off Stevens. Apatari carried 'his bat for 18, v^hile Moheke added 15. Juno and Barraud each took three wiekets at low cost, and Stevens, Gardner and N. Sciascia one each.
