N.Z. Rice-Growing Plan.

"Kice has not yet been grown in New Zealand and if the Government intends to use the Maori people as a kind of guinea pig to see if it can be produced at a .profit I think it is very improper and unfair," declared Mr. Huro N. Bates, the National party's candiiate for the Southern Maori seat, •n an address at the Wairau Pa. Mr. Bates was referring to a suggestion made by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, during his recent inspection of the native development scheme at the pa. It was then that he suggested that rice should be given a trial.
