The visitors Won both of the foursoxnes matches and two of the singlee by eomfortable margins. The Australian champi'on, Miss P. Borthwick, was defeated by tho 1948 New Zealand ehainpion, MtS Jackson Ball, I up in an exciting game. The other New Zealand winner was Miss *R. Hodges who outclaSsed Miss J. E. Percy, 7 and 6. | Ferfect weather prevailed through- 1 out the day, there being bright sun- I shine and a westerly breeze. The 13th was halvcd , and the New Zealanders tried hard to mahe up the deficit but the Hith proved to be the last hole when the Australians scored four to New Zealand 'a five. Both pairs took 39 to tho tutu. Australia scored a eomfortable win in the second foursomes, Misses M. Bishop and J. E. Percy dofeating Misses R. C. Hodges and M. Hughes, 3 and 5. The first two holes wero playod according to bogey, but when Miss Hughes found the rough at tho third the Australians took the lead with another bogey. The Australians took tho turn 5 up. The New Zealanders got ono back at the 12th but the end came "when Miss Hughes found the .rough at the back of the 18th and t'ound it impossible to play out direct on on the green. M.rs Ball won the 12th after Miss Borthick had Mis^ Z. Hudson, winning by 5 and 4. Playing a masterly piteh as a feature of her play the Australian-. made few mistakes. With much of her green play shaky Mrs .H. A. Murray went under to Miss •J. 1. Fletcher, 4 and 3. The Australian was 4 up at the turu and the game finished at the loth where Miss Fletcher scored a birdie 3. The match between Miss R. Hodges bogey was never troubled, winning 7 and 6. Miss Hodges was 7 up with seven holes jjlayed. Miss Percy 's only win of the match was at the 11th after Miss Hodges had been stymied. Correet 3's at the next ended the game in -favour of New Zealand.
