It was I decided to accept the invitation

and visit the premises on Wednesday next. Four .proposed subdivisions on behalf of clients were forwarded by Messrs Foster and Foster, surveyors, and were approved. An application from Mr. R. J. Barnett, Rangiuru Road, for the filling in of a depression in front of 'his property was favourably received. . - Acknowledging an application from the councii for an extension to serve the new subdivision at the north end of Tasman Beach and the motor camp, the Horowhenua Electric Power Boai'd advised that its engineer would take an early opportunity of calling on the town clerk regarding the possibility of a connection, The delay in delivery • of poles was brought before the notice of the councii, and an assurance given that the work would be proceeded with when the board was in a position to do it. The letter was received. The town clerk advised having served notice on the owner of a beach property to comply with requirements set out by the sanitary inspector. As no steps had ■apparently been taken to comply with the requisition, the legal position is to be investigated further. The Beach Hall Committee ►r.

wrote thanking the councii for ,the prompt installation of a light at the entrance to the hall grounds, and expressed appreciation of .the councii's action. A resident of Tasman Beach drew attention to the grass that had grown up in front of the lifesaving equipment shed, suggesting that time would be wasted in getting rid of the obstruction in the case of an emergency. It was reported that the works committee had given attention to this matter. The state of the water channel by the Beach Hall was the subject of a letter from the Hall Committee. It was referred to the works committee. Advising that the flow of water from the roadway to his cottage was sometimes so serious as to make the roadway impassable without gumboots, another property owner at Tasman Beach asked the councii to put down a, load of gravel at 'the gate to remedy the trouble. The attention. of the foreman is to be drawn to this matter/ with the bbject of remedying it. The Manawatu Catchment Board advised that application would be made to the Loans Board during October for permission to raise the whole of the funds for the Otaki scheme, with further advice that, subject to* the approval of the Loans Board, the work would be under way within six months. Acknowledging representations made by the councii in regard to applications to the Bureau of Industry by Messrs Anketell and Hazelwood, of Tasman Beacli, to resell motor spirit, the bureau advised that the applications were refused, as the applicants were not within the trade associated with the sale of motor spirit. Further advice offered was that ample facilities existed in Otaki, and that additional facilities did not appear to be warranted. An application by Mr. A. C. Noble for a lioence to install pumps in Main Street had also been refused. Memibers felt that the councii had done all it eould in this matter.

Mr. N. E. Willis, of Petone, wrote suggesting that an obvious error had been made in the subdivision at the north end of Moana Street, pointing out that a road of approximately 51 feet width would leave little roorn for manoeuvering by cars with caravans Which could be expected to enter and leave the new camping ground. The writer further suggested that as the land had only recently been sold, the time to provide the further suggested 15 feet of road widfch was now, when the expense would be'small, whereas' if it was left until the sites were built on the cost would be infinitely greater. The writer is to be thanked for his interest and letter, and be advised that the councii is of the opinion • that as ample turning and manoeuvering room is provided within the camp, there. will be no difficulty, The Land Valuation Court advised that of two objections to the new valuations, ■ one valuation had been sustained and the other amended. The* objections -were heard at Levin on Wednesday, November 2. The town clerk reported having requested . that the cases be heard at Otaki. 'The letter was received.
