Seventy Houses Being Built In Levin
Six new dwellings had been commenced and five completed during the month of October, leaving the number uncompleted at 71, said the building inspeetor, Mr. H. T. Tilyard, in a report to Mon'day night's mee'ting of the Levin Borough Council. Several garages, sheds and alterations were under way, he added. An inspection had been made of damaged verandah posts, which totalled nine, continued Mr. Tilyard. The attention of the occupants of the premises had been drawn to the matter. The railing to the fire escape from the Regent Hall had been completed. The attention of the owner of business premises in Oxford Street had been drawn to the dangerous condition of the building, and he hoped to be in a position to report to the council's next meeting what steps the owner intended to take to remedy the position. ( Five permits of an aggregate value of £8331 were issued during October for new 'dwellings. For the seven months since April 1 permits •have been issued for 51 new dwellings, the total value being £91,639. Last year for the same period the permits numbered 68 and their value was £115,405.
