Ladies' Guilds Meet At Afternoon

A beautiful 'day favoured the* members of the Methodist Church Ladies' Guild when they were hostesses to the Church of England and the Presbyterian Church ladies' guilds in the Parish HaU last Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Ashworth opened proceedings with a short Bible reading and prayer and extende-d a wslcome fco the guests expressing pleasure at there beiiig such a large gathering. Interspersing the competitions which were won by Mrs. G. Munford, Mrs. A. Hannam and Mrs. Teague (Hakara) a clever story made up of song titles twas read by Mrs. S. W. Carter and songs were sung by Mrs. J. F. Riches (Foxton) and Mrs. L. Chittenden (Foxton) who also read a humorous story. An especiaUy nice afternoon tea was handed round. On behalf of the guests Mrs. E. L. Hyde thanked the members of the Methodist Guild for the most enjoyable afternoon they had arranged and wished them a happy new year as this would be the last occasion on which they would fraternise this year. The main business of the November meeting of the Church of England Ladies' GuUd was the finalising of arrangements for their annual bazaar which wiU be ofileially opened in the Parish HaU at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 10. All the proceedings are to ' be used to enlarge the Parish HaU -supper; room. As this is now the only hall available for social functions in Shannon it .is felt that adequate room and conveniences fpr serving refreshmen.s should be hiade available. For the evenihg the youhg people haye organ■Ised a dance which promises to be Worth going to.
