Guided Missiles Now In Advanced Stage
LONDON, Nov. 4. Guided missiles, which could be used for intercepting atom bombers, are in an advanced stage of development, according to the latest R.A.F. quarterly journal published under the direction of the Air Ministry Committee. The rocket-propelled missile would elimb much faster than any piloted fighter, and when it reached the point where its radar eye picked up the enemy it would free itself from ground control and the electronic brain would start working. By actuating a "set of muscles" comprising nervo-mechanisms the missile would intercept a bomber, exploding itself and destroying the bomber at the point of interception. The journal said: "This missile is not an imaginery device. It is near the final stage of development.''
