H Oram, M.P., electioneering in the Manawatu electorate will be at a standstill as Mr. B. A. Rogers, the Labour candidate, has announced that he has postponed all his meetings until further notice. Heavy Rain Causes Flooding. ' Heavy rain which fell early on Sunday morning cause'd the Otaru stream and Stansell's draln to rise rapidly, the lat!:er overflowing its banks and bringing minor flooding on much of the lowland towards the Manawatu River. Drairis were unable to cope with the sudden downpour and considerable areas are under water throughout . the "district. The Manawatu River ' was rising last evening. Guy Fawkes Celebrations. Soon after dark on Saturday evening the sound of fireworks heralded. the celebration of Guy Fawkes Day in Shannon. Bonfires at various points throughout the borough brightened, up the surroundings. Unfortimately, heavy rain commenced . to fall about 9 p.m. and the celebrations terminated. In spite of its short duraiion, this year's celebration was almost up to pre-war standard and easily the best posi>war Guy Fawkes Day. This view-was shared by children and parents alike. Every thing was well controlled and there was no danger of fire.
