MELBOUTiE, Nov. 4. 1 0. Wilson, one of New Zealand 's beat jockeys, who aecompanied Mr. (J. Humphrxes and Royal Tan from New Zealand and has ridden the Royai Chief gelding in all his engagements in Aleiuourne, asked Mr. Humphries to be rolieved of his engagoment to ride tlio gelding in the Veteran btaka at Flexuington yesterday. He told Humphries he thought Royal Tan knew him too well and would not do his bost for hua. He thought Royal Tan would do better for another jockey. Humphries told Wilson he was perfectly satisiied witli the way he had ridden him. Royal Tan was the medium of a betting plunge in the Veteran Stakes. Aithough he moved up smartly roundnig the turn he failed to iinish on and ran sixth. Royal Tan is engaged in the vveight-for-age C. B. Fisher Plate, oue mile and a-half, and the V.R.C. Handteap. one mile and three-quarters, at Flemington toinorrow. He is likeJy to start in ihe tiandicap. Another New Zealander, King's Rausom, is also engaged in both races. King's Ransom was withdrawn , frojn the Veteran btakes yesterday owing to the heavy track and his weiglit is 9.2. The stipendiary stewards concluded their inquiries mto interference sull'ered by severn! horses in the Melbourne Cup. After viewing a (ilm of the race and questioning D. Barclay, rider ot bun Lyric, for some tinie, they found that the occurrences were accidental. The leading tiydney jockey, J. Thompson, vvho rode Dickens to victory in the Linlitligow Stakes yesterday, scored his first win after riding 44 consecutive losers. This was his first win at either of the spring meetings at Randwick, CauJlield and Flemington.
