Fortunes at the vital stages favoured tlie North Island team in the annual inter-jsland matcli at Otatara today, aud gave them a decisive win by live matches to two, oue being halved. The winning margin flattered the victors, but their consistency turned the scales. Nortliern superiority was fuJlv expect- i ed, but at an early stage in the morn- ' ing South IsJand supporters expected an upset as their representatives held commanding leads in several matches over the first nine holes. : Fxccpt for Miss V. Fleming's eclipse - the golf was of a uniformlv good standard, often Teaching brilliant lieights. The course was in an ideal condition for match play and the weather perfect. Features of the day were the defeat of the New Zealand champion, Mrs. Jackson Ball (Wanganui) 3 and 1 by Miss Z. Hudson (Christchurch) in a low-scoring match, and a brilliant score of 3(i, one under bogey, was returned by Mrs. H. A. Murray (Miramar) over the first half of the journey. Mrs. Murray defeated Miss Flemming 7 and 8. • Other excellenl tallies over nine holes were put up by Mrs. Ball, Mrs. GlanvilJe and Mrs. Cullen, each with 38, and Miss Hudson and Miss Hughes 39. Over the 12 holes she played Mrs. Murray was one under bogey. Scores (North Island names first):- — Mrs. J. Ball lost to Miss Z. Hudson 4 and 3, Miss R. Hodges beat Mrs. J. K. -Dolan 1 up, Mrs. H. A, Murray beat Miss V. Fleming 7 and 0, Mrs. G. W. Hoilis beat Mrs. W. A. Scott 2 and 1, Mrs. R. S. Fullerton-Smith beat Mrs. J. E. Salisbury 2 and 1, Miss M. Hughes beat Miss H. Buelianan 2 and l, Miss J. Duncan Idst to Mrs. H. Topliss 4 and 3, Mrs. V. 1?, Glanville uiid Mrs. N. D. Cullen all square. ^
