Crippling Duty On Water Development
AUCKLAND, Nov. 3. Saies tax and duty on the' steel to be used for the pipeline for the Hunua water development will coBt the city more tlian £3400 a mile, according to flgures contaJned in a report by the Town Clerk (Mr T. W. M. Ashby) to the City Couneii. Steel -plate for the first seven miles of the lirie is already in Auckland and tax and duty on it amounts to £24,000.-- Mr. Ashby dealt with the council 's ■fruitl-ess efforts ,to f.btain a remissioh of the tax and duty. The council decided to renew its application diroet to the Minister.
