Rose Show Next Week

The Otaki Horticultural Society will stage its annual rose show in the Maori Kindergarten School on Friday next. -Mr. J. J. Maher, MJP., has accepted an invitation to perform the opening ceremony. Lovers of flajyers can look forward to the display being a most striking one, many choice blooms having been evident in the distriot over the past few weeks. An innovation on this occasion will be a .saies stall, with plants and flowers available to intending purchasers. Proceeds will be in aid of the society's funds, and donations of saleable articles will te appreciated by the committee, Mrs. H. Smith being in charge of this stall. Arrangements have been made for afternoon tea to be made available in the Anglican Hall nearby. Outstanding trophies in the Francis and Glenrossie Cups will come up for competition. In addition numerous points prizes of £1 ls and 10s 6d, besides many of slightly lesser value, ma.y be won. All classes are catered for and besides roses and cut flowers, an excellent display of fruit and vegetables can usually be looked for at this time of the year. Schedules may be obtained from "The Chronicle" office, Otaki, and foilowing on the success of ihe recbnt spring show, the society is confident that the forthcoming function will give supporters and members extreme pleasure. Entries will close next Thursday at 4.30 p.m.
