School Committee Meets
Routine business occupied the attention of members of the Otaki School Committee when they field their montfily meeting on Tuesday night, presided over by Mr. H. Taylor. Satisfaction was expressed at the advice that the Otaki School had been selected for visits by "sLudents in training at the Wellington Teachers' Training College These visits will be for the purpose of observation and tra,ining practice, and a means of assisting the fetudents generally. The headmaster, Mr. O. H. E. Yates, advised that the number on the roll was 428, comprising 213 boys and 215 girls, with Mr. G. Sathorne now appointed to the teaching staff in a permanent position. The final figures for the gala day effort showed a nett profit of £306 ls lld, and thanks were offered to all citizens and orgA,nisations who had helped in this pleasing result. The school grounds and gardens were reported to be in good order, and appreciation ' of donations of 300 polyanthus from Mr. Scott, of Iii Street, as well -as earnation and pansy plants, and to Mr. Gardner, of Levin, for a donation of six dozen dahlia tubers, named varieties, was expressed. Arrangements were reported to be well in hand for the annual flower " show and calf judging, to take place this year on Friday, Nove.mber 18, and an 'invitation was extended to parents and others interested to attend. The final meeting for the. year of the Home and School Association has been fixed for Thursday, November 10, when a card and social evening will be held.
