The defeat of the Communist mem bers of the Auckland brancli of thNew Zealaiul Walerside Workers Union in a secret ballot to elect si;representati ves on the nat.ional conn cil is interpreted as a pointer to nos silile waterfrdnt. policy changes and as a rebulf to the course set by the nat ional president (Mr 11. The Communisls defeat ed in this electiou wero Messrs A. Drcnnan. national vice-presi-dent, and J. Mitcliell, a member of tho local union exeeutive.
