INVERCARGILL, Nov. 1. The Auckland and Canterbury representative teams provided a curtainraised today to the New ^ Zealand women 's golf championship tournament vvhich will start at Otatara links on Thursday mornnig. Auckland decisiveiy •dofeated Canterbury by 74 matches to 14 in the final Doininion inter-provin-cial championships for the Russell Grace Cup. Evergreen Mrs G. W. Hollis and the youthful Miss R. C. Hodges showed brilliant form for the northern team, putting themselves in the running for oarly favouritism in the championship tournament. In her match against Miss V. Eleming Miss llodges outstripped her opponent over the last niue holes with soine sparkling golf, linishing the game two over par to win 5 and 4. Mrs Hollis played golf of excellent quality against Miss Rutherford who uulueki.lv failed to find her usual con sistent. form. Miss M. Ilughes (Auckland) staged a battle royal with the runner-up of the 1948 Doininion championship, Miss Buchanan, who held the lead 2 up at the 14th.
