Received Wednesday, 12.2 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 1. To the welcoming cheers of large crowds on Plymouth Hoe and ships' sirens, H.M.S. Amethyst steamed into Plymouth Sound today. Amethyst was flying the paying-off pennant and will undergo a refit hefore returning to the Far East manned by a fresh crew. The First Lord of the Admiralty (Viscount Hall) said Amethyst had justified the British people 's implicit faith in the Navy whose st.eadfastness, initiative and courage today were as great as at any period in the past.
