Au apparent loss of oil pressure in the starboard outer eagine of the Solent airoraft, A rarangi, of Tasman lim pire Airways was responsible for a decision to turn back from the round-New Zcaland flight when over C'ook Stra'it this moining. Kngineers at Mechanie's Bay t'ound later that the defeet was in the oil pressure gauge and that the Solent eould have continued her journey4 as plauued. When tlie drop in oil pressure was 111dicated, Ihe Commauder, Captain Keesing, iinmediately stopped the engine affecred. The aireraft, which had attraeted large crowds at New Plymoutli and Wanganui, returned comfortablv to Auckland 011 three motors. Australian journalists visiting New Zealand as the guests of the compahy were among the passengers.
