Weraroa Have Fine Win In First Cricket Game
Competition cricket began • in the Horowhenua district on Saturday. in the senior competition Weraroa had an easy win over Paraparaumu to gain eight championship ( points. Paraparaumu had first use of the wicket and were quickly dismissed for only 27. Keogh, with a total of 16. was the sole batsman to return double figures. Saunders figured largely in the r.out of the batsmen, taking five wickets for 11 runs. O'Donnell took three for six and J. Ryder two for three. Weraroa batted soundly and deelared when nine wickets were down for 13.5. O'Donnell was top scorer with 36 and the others to reach double figures were Hudson (27), Nichols (15) and J. Ryder (11). Cavanagh, Snell, Murray, Fitton and Keogh shared the wickets. Paraparaumu fared better in their second innings with a total of 75.° Keogh was again the highest scorer, contributing 30 before going out l.b.w. to Ryder. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Brazier with 14. O'Donnell captured four wickets for 10, Hudson two for five, France one for 26, De Castro one for 10 and J. Ryder one for seven. Weraroa thus won the game by an innings and 33 runs. Foxton's Easy Win. Foxton defeated Shannon • on the Shannon Domain. Batting first, Foxton made 79 runs, Rybern (25) and Carmont. (18) being. the top scores. Bowling for. Shannon, Harris took four wickets for 12 runs and Poutu two for six. Shannon, in their innings, scored only 34 runs, Munford. (8) and McNeil (7) were the lop scorers. Bowling for Foxton, Carmont took four wickets for seven runs and Newth six wickets for 10 runs. Drawn Game. Old Boys proved worthy opponents for Otaki A at the Otaki Domain, the game ending in a draw. The visitors made 167 and the home side had 116 on the board for the loss of nine wickets when time was called. G. Sciascia hit a nice 58 for Old Boys, with Stevens making 37, W. Sciascia 19 and Dome 18. O'Brien accounted for three of the wickets for 23 runs and Heatherwick four for 24. Rice with' a pieasing 42, Heatherwick 30 and McHaffie 14 featured in Otaki's scoring. Bowling for Old Boys, Stevens took five for 21 and W. Sciascia two for 30.
