Prime Minister Challenges Mr. Holland
^ 9 WHANGAREI, Oct. 31. Addressing a public meeting at Kaikohe on Saturday night, at which he was given an uninterrupted hearing, the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, referred to the National -Party's manifesto and challenged Mr. Holland to give precise details of his party's financial policy. Mr. Fraser described as "a barefaced threat to that race" a statement by Mr. Holland that it would be tragic if there were to be a change of Government and there were no Maori member of Parliament in the National Party. Mr. Fraser said that, frankly interpreted, Mr. Holland's statement meant that if the Maoris di'd not vote for the National Party candidates they would not get any advantages if the party gained office. "It was introducing a new factor into politics to tell members of a whole race that if they did not change their political allegiance they would not have any means of approach to a new Government," he added.
